SUCCESS STORIES

In the last few years, the Förderkreis was able to significantly contribute to driving BIOTOPIA forward. The project has already successfully cleared several essential hurdles on its way to realisation.
ALREADY OVER 8 MIO. EUROS PRIVATE FUNDING FOR BIOTOPIA
January 2020

With a grant from Merck, a science and technology company based in Darmstadt, Germany, the Förderkreis BIOTOPIA e.V. has now raised more than half of the targeted private funding for BIOTOPIA. During the DLD Conference 2020 in Munich, Merck CEO Dr. Stefan Oschmann announced the support from his company. The Bavarian State Minister of Science and Art, Bernd Sibler, also congratulated and thanked all friends and supporters.

EXPLORE FLYING
January 2018

"Move" is one of the behaviours which is part of BIOTOPIA's future permanent exhibition. The Förderkreis financially supported the purchase of "Birdly", a VR flight simulator. It lets visitors experience how it feels like to fly like a bird, gliding over Bavarian landscapes. And it will already be deployed in 2019.

BAYWA FOUNDATION: 800,000 EUR FOR THE BIOTOPIA LAB
October 2017

The BayWa Foundation supports the planning, set up and operation of the BIOTOPIA Lab with funding in the amount of 800,000 EUR. The Lab is a temporary exhibition space in the Munich Botanical Garden equipped with a kitchen and a lab area among other things. It will offer a space for school programmes, events and workshops. The BayWa Foundation has been an avid supporter of BIOTOPIA since the beginning, initially as one of the Förderkreis founding patrons.

DESIGN OF BIOTOPIA

The Förderkreis supported the development of the future museum's branding. With the pioneering name BIOTOPIA, a vivid logo and the activating claim "Explore Life", the museum reinvents itself and makes its vision tangible. It contributes to making the museum come alive - years before its actual opening. The design has been developed in collaboration with the Munich-based design agency Zeichen & Wunder. It won the annual Corporate Design Award in the category "Coprorate Design Launch" in 2017 and the IF Design Award in 2018.

APPOINTMENT OF THE FOUNDING DIRECTOR
OCTOBER 2015

With Prof. Dr. Michael John Gorman, a visionary founding director joins BIOTOPIA. As such, he will advance the  content development in particular. Prof. Gorman has received international renown for his projects at the interface of science, art and innovation, "Science Gallery Dublin" and "Science Gallery International". The Förderkreis has conceptually supported the process of finding and appointing a founding director.

PLANNING CONTRACT FOR THE FUTURE MUSEUM
July 2014

The Ministers of the Bavarian government are backing a new natural history museum for Bavaria with a bavaria-wide educational network. In a meeting, the cabinet resolved upon issuing the planning contract for the future museum. After the architectural competition, this step lays the foundation for the next stage of more detailed planning. "The decision motivates us even more to champion such an important project together with all supporters and involved parties", Dr. Auguste von Bayern emphasizes. The Förderkreis has previously promoted the project in numerous conversations with politics and society.

SUCCESSFUL SEED CAPITAL
DECEMBER 2012

The first crucial step towards BIOTOPIA.
In the interval of only a few weeks and on the initiative of the Förderkreis, a great number of citizens and companies have donated almost 1 million EUR, sending a strong signal regarding the realisation of the museum. Politics reacted by making good on their promise for additional funding: By launching the planning stage with a budget of 2.6 million EUR and tendering the architectural competition.
